There are some days that we find ourselves in perfect sync! When all our ducks are in a row and everything lines up just right. I find myself looking forward to these days when I can power through my to-do list. When everything I do feels intentional, not reactive. At the end of these days I feel incredibly productive and accomplished. Pity we don't have these perfectly aligned days more often.
But what if there was a way in which we could get more of these moments/days when our goals and values are in harmony? What if we could align our personal goals with the organization's at work? Or find the balance between our values and our actions at home? It is worth actively pursuing this sense of balance, because it means that our energy is actually spent on accomplishing our goals, rather than minimizing conflict.
We have seen this conflict play out in recent days in the form of the Great Resignation wherein more and more people are redefining their work and the role it plays in the larger scheme of things. It would be simplistic to think that millions of people are quitting their jobs because they want a pay raise or a promotion. I find it easier to believe that the pandemic acted as a catalyst for many people to reflect upon their priorities and how they align with their purpose in life. What they found was a disconnect between what their professed values and the reality of their actions. And at least in some case that lead to many people striving to change their situation.
Many organizations have recognized this disconnect but they are struggling to go beyond the usual hiring bonuses and pay raises to attract new talent and retain existing employees. What is clear is that the workplace is evolving and what may have motivated employees in the days before the pandemic may not necessarily be relevant any more. This is a good time to align our values and actions with our purposes - both on a personal & organizational level. As expressed by Brian Tracy, when we are aligned, we go further and faster.
