Why do people leave their jobs? That is a question that keeps a lot of HR teams, hiring & training managers busy. Especially in the Hospitality sector! The employee turnover rate in this industry can range anywhere between 30 to 74%, depending on geographical location, seasonality and even external factors that are unforeseen and beyond control. Case in point - the current pandemic.
But attrition has been a problem in Hospitality, even before COVID. Ask any hiring manager in the industry and they will tell you all about hiring, onboarding, training & REPEAT. Much has been said about the shortage of labor as businesses open up. In any other industry, this would be a good problem to have, because it means business is booming. But in a business as reliant on people like Hospitality, a shortage of skilled & trained staff can mean the inability to do business. There is only so much work that can be automated or outsourced. At the end of the day, hospitality is about welcoming people and we cannot entirely remove the humans from that equation.
But if the problems are inherent, then the solutions are also available from within the industry.
