Hello Reader,
Purpose… such a loaded term.
Whenever I hear the words “find your purpose”, a part of me cringes. I wonder if you ever felt the same.
Is purpose something you find? Or something you build? Is it out there to be discovered? Or is it an inside job? Is it one, written on a wall? Or are there multiple purposes we live to fulfil?
These are some of the questions we will discuss in the upcoming (free) EQ Cafè – Purpose. Workshop details below.
My dad was a bus driver. He used to travel around Europe with tourists from all over the world. He would be away for weeks at a time, sharing his knowledge of the cities he visited. He proudly recommended places to explore, authentic dishes not to be missed, and meaningful souvenirs to bring back home. A sign of success for him was to be invited to dine with the group – a sign of having contributed to building memorable experiences to recount with family and friends.
I know he was not necessarily thinking in “purpose terms”. Yet, I am sure he was living purposefully. Doing something he loved and that offered him a sense of achievement and satisfaction. Remembering him helps me grasp the meaning of purpose and reflect on my own.
In the last EQrated, I shared the Hero’s Journey activity inspired by Joseph Campbell. Using this tool helped me gain clarity about my purpose.
You might be wondering what my purpose is then? To normalize being human. Build the courage to accept our imperfections and vulnerabilities, and to set the desired change in motion.
We are already the best version of ourselves. The best, until now that is, with the tools and experiences we have had! I will tell you another time how I feel about the “becoming the best version of ourselves” statement…

Hello Reader, As December rolls around, we see many news articles and posts about the "Year in Review". Depending on your reading habits and media consumption, I'm guessing you have seen at least one such article. Spotify has even made a whole marketing campaign out of it. Since 2016, #SpotifyWrapped dissects our listening choices for the entire year. What started as a rudimentary list of our favorite songs has now evolved into a slick presentation with brightly colored graphics and multiple...
Hello Reader, Trust is a tenuous thing. Once broken it takes a long time to rebuild trust. Trust is also a very tenacious feeling. When given freely, it takes a lot to shake someone's trust. As human beings we are predisposed to trust other people. When faced with a new situation most people would like to start on a positive note - by giving the benefit of doubt. Unless you have had some trauma, or unpleasant experiences in the past, our default setting is to believe in each another. Which is...
Hello Reader, Some of my most interesting coaching sessions center around how to have difficult conversations. We are particularly sensitive to and go out of our way to avoid them. A feedback session where we felt attacked, an end-of-the-year review that gets our hackles up, or a discussion that devolves into an argument - we've all been there. Our reactions run the whole gamut - avoid, delay, justify and deny. And when we do find ourselves in the midst of an uncomfortable conversation, we...
